Choice Energy Wind Power
As a PUD customer, hydroelectric dams produce 84% of the electricity you use. Dams have provided the Pacific Northwest with clean, affordable energy for the past 65 years. But as demand for electricity has grown, other new resources have been built.
Carbon-free nuclear power produces another 10% of the energy you use and northwest wind & other renewables produce about 2%. The remaining 4% is made up of market purchases which may contain power produced by carbon-emitting fuels.
Buy Wind RECs
By paying an additional 1.5¢ per kilowatt hour for the electricity you use, you can support the development of new wind-generated energy resources in the region through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).
Each year, we buy wind-generated RECs. Every REC we purchase represents one megawatt hour of 100% wind-generated power. This supports replacing the region’s fossil fuel-based electricity with carbon-free electricity. When you support the purchase of RECs, you are supporting the move to carbon-free electricity generation.
This adds about $16 a month to the average residential bill.
