Outage Affects 5,500 in Scappoose

June 8, 2015 – An outage occurred at Scappoose Substation today at 3:54 p.m., affecting 5,500 customers of Columbia River People’s Utility District (PUD). PUD line crews were performing maintenance on a neighboring substation today, so customers typically served by that substation were being served by Scappoose Substation. That extra load, combined with the hot weather, caused Scappoose Substation’s circuit switcher to open. The circuit switcher protects equipment in the substation against overloading.

PUD crews assessed the equipment in the substation and determined that it would be safe to close the circuit switcher back in, restoring power to all customers at 4:40 p.m.
