South Columbia County receives its power from us at Columbia River PUD, and we are 1 of approximately 2,000 public power utilities that provides electricity to 54,000,000 people across the country.
Residents in the area have been receiving power from us for the last 40 years. For that time, you have been not only getting your electricity from us, you’ve also been reaping the other benefits that come with being a public power customer.
Columbia River PUD is community-owned. That means you, the people of Columbia County, get to be involved in making critical decisions about our energy future. You vote for our Board Members. Like our employees, our Board Members live, work, and play here in Columbia County. We take pride in having a locally elected board that has open meetings the third Tuesday of every month.
We are committed to building for the future to ensure reliable, affordable, sustainable, and customer-focused service to our community for many years to come. That’s why we’re working hand-in-hand with customers and community leaders to make sure Columbia River PUD reflects the long-term goals and needs of our community members. Knowing our community and its needs helps us keep homes, schools, businesses, and public places powered year-round.
Right now, that means we’re working tirelessly to increase the amount of power available in our area. Transmission capacity is a challenge facing many utilities not just in Oregon, but throughout the country. We are working with our partners to address this issue so we are able to attract industry to our area to create local living wage jobs.
As a not-for-profit, publicly owned utility, our loyalty is to our customers – not stockholders. We work hard to ensure our rates are lower than neighboring utilities and will remain stable. We will continue to provide reliable, low-cost electricity, and we thank you for your support of public power.
To show our appreciation, we’d like to invite you to join us at the Columbia County Fairgrounds on October 8, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. We’re partnering with the Warren Grange to provide spaghetti for this year’s Customer Appreciation Dinner. This is a free event, although you must have a ticket to attend. Stop by our office in Deer Island to pick one up.
Our Customer Appreciation Dinner is an annual event that we hold during Public Power Week. Public Power Week is October 6 through October 12. Please join us in celebrating. We hope to see you at the pavilion on October 8.
