You are invited to join us for hot dogs and an open house on Thursday, August 29, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. to help us celebrate 40 years of providing public power.
In addition to enjoying hot dogs, you will be able to see bucket trucks up close and personal. There will be fun activities for the kids and giveaway items for all.
We'll have a slideshow displaying historic images of the PUD throughout the day.
Our office will be closed from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day for an employee luncheon.
We look forward to celebrating this occasion with you. The PUD began providing electric service to Columbia County residents on August 31, 1984, and we have experienced tremendous growth over the past four decades.
One of our proudest accomplishments is the amount of money we have been able to keep in our community. When we took over electric service from the previous investor-owned utility, our Board of Directors pledged to keep rates 5% lower than theirs.
Today, our rates are about 40% lower, which resulted in $15,500,000 in savings for our customers in 2023. The total amount our customers have saved since 1984 is $173,000,000.
