Ductless Heat Pumps

The PUD's Ductless Heat Pump program provides a $1,500 rebate for qualifying installations.

Quiet, easy to use and energy efficient, ductless heat pumps provide home heating Photo of ductless heat pump unit in living roomand cooling at a fraction of the cost of electric baseboard and wall heaters. The simplified installation process and energy efficiency associated with ductless heat pumps make them an excellent option for replacing existing zonal heating systems.

Ductless systems are available from many manufacturers. Each system consists of an outside unit and one or more inside “heads” that serve zones in your home. To learn more, please go to www.goingductless.com or visit our office to see a display model.

Eligibility

This program is available to residential PUD customers who meet the following requirements:

  • Your primary heat source is permanently installed electric resistance heat such
    as wall heaters, baseboards or ceiling cable. Single family site built homes with electric forced air furnaces are eligible through March 31, 2010.
  • You agree to allow us to share your electricity usage information with the
    NW Ductless Heat Pump Project.
  • You agree to participate in project activities and evaluations.
  • Incentives

    Rebates

    We offer a $1,500 incentive for approved installations in single family homes, and a $1,000 rebate for installations in multi-family housing units, such as apartment complexes.

    Tax Credits

    The Oregon Department of Energy offers a Premium Efficiency Ductless Heat Pump Tax Credit of up to $400. For more information, visit http://www.oregon.gov/ENERGY or call (800) 221-8035.

    Federal tax credits of 30% of the cost, up to $1,500 may also be available for qualified systems. Visit www.EnergyStar.gov for more information.

    Step-By-Step Process

    1. Contact a qualifying contractor company to arrange for a home consultation. To view a complete list of qualified contractors please visit http://www.goingductless.com.
    2. Complete a Homeowner Participation Form and return it to your contractor.
    3. Your new ductless heat pump will be installed according to Northwest Ductless Heat Pump Project and manufacturer's specifications. Upon completion, your installer will submit documentation to the Northwest Ductless Heat Pump Project for review.
    4. Once we receive notification from the Northwest Ductless Heat Pump Project that your installation meets project standards, we will schedule an inspection of your new system. After a satisfactory inspection, we will send you a rebate check.
