Columbia River PUD serves 18,650 electric meters in Columbia County, Oregon, and a small number of customers in northern Multnomah County
Sixty-five Columbia County residents initiated formation of Columbia River PUD at Beaver Homes Grange Hall on November 18, 1939.
PUDs, or people's utility districts, are special districts like fire districts or school districts. They provide electric service at cost-based rates. A five-member board of directors, elected by voters within the PUD's political boundaries, sets rates and policies.
As a community-owned utility, the PUD is part of a public power family that also includes electric cooperatives and municipal utilities. Learn some of the differences between community-owned and investor-owned utilities.
