Zero Emission and Electric Vehicle Rebate

Oregon residents who buy or lease an electric vehicle after January 1, 2018, may be eligible for a rebate from the State of Oregon.

The rebate program is part of a statewide effort to reduce air pollution. It will offer cash rebates to Oregonians who buy certain types of electric vehicles.

The program is not yet finalized. Residents who buy or lease an electric vehicle on or after January 1, 2018, may fill out Phase I of the rebate application. 

Eligible Vehicles

To be eligible for a rebate, residents must submit Phase I within six months of buying or leasing the qualifying vehicle.

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and battery-powered electric vehicles qualify for this program. Other eligibility requirements will be made in mid-2018. 

Rebates

Two rebates have been proposed: the Standard Rebate and the Charge Ahead Rebate.

The Standard Rebate could be:

• $1,500 to $2,500 towards the purchase or lease of a new electric vehicle (EV) with a battery capacity of 10 kWh or more.
• $750 to $1,500 towards the purchase or lease of a new EV with a battery capacity of less than 10 kWh.

The Charge Ahead Rebate could be:

• $1,250 to $2,500 towards the purchase or lease of a new or used EV.
• If buying or leasing a new EV, eligible purchases can combine the two rebates for a total rebate of up to $5,000.
• To qualify for the Charge Ahead Rebate, the purchaser or lessee must be from a low- or moderate-income household; live in an area with poor air quality from transportation emissions; and scrap a gas car that's at least 20 years old.

Rebates will not be paid until at least the summer of 2018. The state is still collecting funding for the program.
