PUD franchise fee payments total $483,447

April 6, 2007

Columbia River People's Utility District (PUD) paid a total of $483,447 in franchise fees to five local cities for 2007.

Franchise fees are paid by utilities to local municipalities to be permitted to operate in their rights of way. The fees are set by the cities and are collected by the PUD.

The PUD's 2007 franchise fee payments to each city are based on gross revenues billed during 2006 from PUD customers within each city's boundaries. The 2006 franchise fee payments were:

  • St. Helens - $311,228
  • Scappoose - $111,576
  • Columbia City - $37,840
  • Rainier - $21,621
  • Prescott - $1,182

In addition to franchise fees, the PUD paid Columbia County $346,900 in property taxes in 2006. These payments help fund schools, police departments, fire districts and other city and county services.
