PUD donates to schools, senior centers

January 19, 2007

Columbia River People’s Utility District (PUD) has donated $16,000 to three local school districts and three local senior centers.

The PUD's Community Involvement Team budgets money each year to fund the PUD's scholarship, community involvement and grant programs. The team focuses its efforts on programs that support youth and seniors.

The $16,000 in donations was distributed to the school districts and senior centers based on the population of the communities they serve. The grant amounts were:

  • St. Helens School District - $5,250
  • Scappoose School District - $3,100
  • Rainier School District - $1,650
  • St. Helens Senior Center - $3,600
  • Scappoose Senior Center - $1,800
  • Rainier Senior Center - $600

"These organizations provide valuable services to our community and we are happy to support them," said PUD General Manager Kevin Owens.

The PUD requests that its donations to the school districts go to support a variety of programs, including parent-teacher organizations, sports boosters, school-based health programs and drug prevention programs. The senior center donations will support nutrition programs.
