PUD Awards Four $1,000 College Scholarships

Columbia River People's Utility District has awarded $1,000 scholarships to four graduating high school seniors.  Branden Staehely was awarded a utility industry scholarship to pursue a career in electrical engineering. Kyrstin Cameron, Robert Greisen and Rachel Wheeler were awarded scholarships for their outstanding community service.

Branden Staehely
Our Utility Industry Scholarship recipient, Branden Staehely, has maintained a 4.0 GPA while taking some of the most difficult courses offered at Rainier High School, participating in football, basketball and track, and mentoring younger students. He plans to attend Oregon Institute of Technology to study electrical engineering.
2008 Community Service Scholarship Winner Kyrstin CameronKyrstin Cameron
Kyrstin is a National Honor Society and FFA member who painted a mural at St. John Medical Center to cheer visitors in the surgical waiting room. She plans to attend Chemeketa Community College to study nursing.
 
St. Helens High School2008 Community Service Scholarship Winner Rachel Wheeler
Rachel Wheeler
Rachel has spent many hours volunteering as a preschool teacher and vacation bible school helper for her church, and served as a day-camp director for River City Children's Theater.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Drama Club and the varsity tennis team.  She plans to attend George Fox University to study teaching.
Scappoose High School2008 Community Service Scholarship Winner Robert Greisen
Robert Greisen
Robert has volunteered for a migrant worker camp, a homeless shelter, and a Christmas meals program. He participates in 4-H, FBLA, National Honor Society, soccer and track, and plays in the school band.  He plans to attend the University of Idaho to study agricultural systems management.
