PUD Donates $500 to Scappoose Rural Fire Protection District

May 19, 2008

Columbia River People's Utility District (PUD) has made a $500 donation to the Scappoose Rural Fire Protection District to help build a ventilation roof training prop.

"This prop teaches firefighters how to safely mitigate extreme fire conditions which are common during firefighting," said Scappoose Fire District Division Chief Chris Lake. "The PUD's donation will help us keep our local firefighters safe."

According to Chief Lake, the ventilation roof training prop will provide local firefighters with critical knowledge and skills to relieve pressure and remove hot and toxic gases from a structure during firefighting operations. These actions help to provide a survivable environment and aid in fire fighting efforts.
Neither Scappoose Fire District nor Columbia River Fire & Rescue has a ventilation roof prop. Firefighters from both districts will use the new prop during training exercises, which will be held at the Lee Broadbent Training Center.

Scappoose Fire District needs to raise an additional $1,800 to build the prop.
