PUD Offering Utility Industry and Community Service Scholarships

Columbia River PUD is now accepting applications for its Utility Industry and Community Service Scholarship Programs.
The Utility Industry Scholarship is a $4,000 scholarship for students intending to pursue one of six careers specific to the electric utility industry: lineman, electrical engineer (power or energy systems), energy management engineer, field engineering technician, energy efficiency specialist or renewable energy specialist. Job shadows are available for potential applicants.
Recipients entering lineman training programs will receive scholarshp funds in a single $4,000 payment. Recipients entering two or four-year programs will receive a $2,000 scholarship renewable for a second year of schooling in their chosen field of study.
"There are many rewarding careers available in the electric utility industry," said PUD General Manager Kevin Owens. "We hope this scholarship will help us attract the best and the brightest students."
The Community Service Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship intended to recognize outstanding community service during a student's high school career.
Applications are available in the counseling offices of local high schools, at the PUD office and at on the PUD website. The application deadline is March 12, 2010.

Columbia River People's Utility District provides electric service to 18,560 customers in Columbia and Multnomah Counties in Oregon.
The PUD employs 49 people and had FY2009 gross revenues of $26.9 million.
