PUD Awards Six Community Service Scholarships

Six graduating high school seniors were awarded scholarships by Columbia River People’s Utility District this month for their outstanding community service efforts. This year’s recipients were Jaclyn Anderson, Katie Griesen, Kyle Marshall, Jenna Mazour, Rebecca Roth and Caleb Thurston.
Jaclyn Anderson
Jaclyn Anderson is a St. Helens High School graduate. She was a National Honor Society member, varsity athlete and respite care provider for a special needs child. She is also a former Girl Scout and 4-H member and has participated in student ministry and mission trips to Mexico through her church. She received a $1,500 scholarship from the PUD and plans to Concordia University, where she will major in nursing.
Katie Griesen
Katie Griesen is a Scappoose High School graduate, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and Key Club. She was also a varsity athlete and a member of both the jazz and symphonic bands. She is also a 4-H Ambassador, a volunteer for Friends of the Fair and a member of her church youth leadership team. She received a $1,500 scholarship from the PUD and plans to attend the University of Portland.
Kyle Marshall
Kyle Marshall is a Scappoose High School graduate and was FBLA President, a National Honor Society Member and an American Enterprise Mentor. He was also a varsity athlete and student store manager. He received a $500 scholarship from the PUD and plans to attend California Polytechnic State University and study Civil Engineering.
Jenna Mazour
Jenna Mazour is a graduate of South Columbia Learning Center, where she was Student Council Vice President and a Peer Review Committee Member. She has volunteered for Columbia Humane Society, Kiwanis, the Women’s Resource Center and the Department of Human Services. She received a $1,500 scholarship from the PUD and plans to attend Western Culinary Institute this fall to begin working on her Associates Degree in Culinary Arts.
Rebecca Roth
Rebecca Roth graduated from Rainier High School, where she was Senior Class President, a member of the varsity football, soccer, golf and track teams, a National Honor Society member and has volunteered for the local food bank and her church. She received a $1,500 scholarship from the PUD and plans to earn a degree in Education.
Caleb Thurston
Caleb Thurston graduated from St. Helens High School, and was co-founder of River City Children's Theater, which has given nearly 200 local youth the opportunity to learn acting skills and to perform in theatrical productions during the summer months. He received a $500 scholarship from the PUD and will attend George Fox University this fall.
The PUD has awarded scholarships annually since 1987. Recipients are chosen based on past community involvement, academic performance and potential for future participation in the community. The scholarship committee, comprising representatives from each school, the PUD and the PUD’s Board of Directors, makes the selections.

Columbia River People's Utility District provides electric service to 17,800 customers in Columbia and Multnomah Counties in Oregon.
The PUD employs 48 people and had FY2005 gross revenues of $27 million.
