PUD Franchise Fee Payments Total $445,381

Columbia River People's Utility District (PUD) paid a total of $445,381 in franchise fees to five local cities for 2006.
Franchise fees are paid by utilities to local municipalities to be permitted to operate in their rights of way. The fees are set by the cities and are collected by the PUD.
The PUD's 2006 franchise fee payments to each city are based on gross revenues billed during 2005 from PUD customers within each city's boundaries. The 2006 franchise fee payments were:
- St. Helens - $285,047
- Scappoose - $104,655
- Columbia City - $34,145
- Rainier - $20,377
- Prescott - $1,157
In addition to franchise fees, the PUD paid $348,089 in property taxes to Columbia County and $2,759 to Multnomah County for 2005. These payments help fund schools, police departments, fire districts and other city and county services.

Columbia River People's Utility District provides electric service to 17,500 customers in Columbia and Multnomah Counties in Oregon.
The PUD employs 48 people and had FY2004 gross revenues of $26.5 million.
