PUD Awards Six College Scholarships

Columbia River People's Utility District (PUD) has awarded six scholarships to high school seniors graduating from area schools. Three $2,000 Utility Industry Scholarships and three $1,000 Community Service Scholarships were awarded.
Rainier High School
Rebecca Edmondson
A $1,000 Community Service Scholarship was awarded to Rebecca Edmondson, who spent over 700 hours volunteering at St. Johns Medical Center and plans to attend Oregon State University to begin working toward a career in oncology.
Miles Griffith
Miles Griffith was awarded a $2,000 Utility Industry Scholarship. Miles plans to
attend Northwest Lineman College where he will study one of the most important trades in the utility industry.
St. Helens High School
Zach Melton
In recognition of his volunteer service for the Scappoose Fire District, the St. Helens Toy & Joy Program, Friends of the Columbia County Fair and the St. Helens Boosters, Zach was awarded a $1,000 Community Service Scholarship. He plans to attend the University of Portland to study nursing.
Brad Welter
Brad Welter was awarded a $2,000 Utility Industry Scholarship. He is planning to
major in electrical engineering and will start his college career at Mt. Hood Community College, where he has been offered a baseball scholarship.
Nicholas Adenau
Nicholas Adenau is planning a double major in mechanical and electrical engineering at Oregon State University, with a focus on renewable energy generation. He was awarded a $2,000 Utility Industry Scholarship.
Scappoose High School
Kristine Wheeler
Kristine Wheeler was awarded a $1,000 Community Service Scholarship, in recognition of her efforts to assist flood victims in Vernonia and to raise funds for the Escuela de Copapayo community service project in El Salvador. She plans to attend Oregon State University to study business.

Columbia River People's Utility District provides electric service to 18,560 customers in Columbia and Multnomah Counties in Oregon.
The PUD employs 48 people and had FY2008 gross revenues of $28.7 million.
